Racing Biography:
October of 1989 marked the beginning of B.J.'s drag race driving career. He had already been involved in the sport for three years with his previous business, an automotive restoration and speed parts store, sponsoring many drag race cars. Finally at the age of 16, B.J. drove his then totally street legal 1964 El Camino to Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, MD and competed in an 1/8 mile nostalgia event. Enjoying that first race, he then proceeded in making several changes to the El Camino during the following week in order to have it ready for competition again at the seasons final race event at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, PA the next weekend. He raced at a few more events after his Maple Grove outing at Cecil County further gathering more precious on track experience.
He started his 1990 season off losing in the second round at the first two points events at Maple Grove competing in Street Eliminator. Then in only his ninth time out as a driver, third of the year, he went seven rounds to win his first drag racing event. After another win and a runner-up along with some late round finishes he went on to end his first full season as a driver and tuner finishing second in points and qualifing for the Division 1 Bracket Finals.
B.J. again competed in Street Eliminator in 1991, finishing the season 12th in points and making a few final round appearances. In 1992 he decided to make a few more changes to his El camino and step up to the Heavy Eliminator class proving again that he had the ability to win. After a few wins, runner-ups and semi final finishes his 1992 season ended with him in 6th place in points and earning another Division 1 Bracket Finals qualifing position.
For the 1993 season after a lot of major changes including backhalving the chassis and installing an alcohol fuel injection setup on the El Camino, B.J. choose to again make another step up in classes and compete in the Super Pro catagory. He didn't make it to any final round appearances other then the semi's, but he did prove that he could go to the later rounds and finished the season 18th in points in the very competitive class.
